According to officials, a 17-year-old teenager who allegedly started shooting at police outside of an apartment building in southeast Houston was shot and hurt by Houston Police Department officers.
Following the incident, the 17-year-old who was shot by police was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital for surgery. The event did not result in the shooting death of another 15-year-old girl.
A trespass alarm at the apartment complex located at 8360 Park Place Blvd. was reported to patrol units at approximately 1 p.m. on Saturday. During a press conference on Saturday, Assistant Chief J. Skelton stated that other apartment complex residents reported the break-in on the Nextdoor app, which notified complex management of the incident.
Officers arrived and spoke with a complex staff member who opened the door of the apartment where the break-in occurred.
According to Skelton, the officers were confronted by an armed suspect right away.
The officers positioned themselves around the residence and immediately withdrew. When they got to the ground, he added, the two teenagers burst out a window and started shooting at the police.
According to reports, officers fired back, hitting the 17-year-old in the upper body. Skelton was unable to immediately estimate the number of shots fired. The smashed window barely caused a cut to the 15-year-old.
They were taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital, both teenagers.
According to Skelton, the Houston police officers perform an excellent job. They put themselves in danger, and at this moment, I just ask that people be especially watchful of the officers since they ventured into the unknown today.
According to Skelton, the teenagers also had previous warrants for violent crimes and house invasion.
Skelton stated, “I believe we were able to remove two violent criminals from the streets today.”
