Woman accused in cyclist’s death arrested in Houston airport attempting to board flight

Hours after attempting to flee the state, a woman who is suspected of hitting and killing a cyclist in Houston on Wednesday was taken into custody at the airport.

Nyla Gamboa, 22, was taken into custody by Harris County Constable Precinct 4 deputies and police officers on Wednesday night at the George Bush Intercontinental Airport for neglecting to stop and provide life-threatening assistance.

Before 9 a.m. on Wednesday, deputies were called to the scene of an auto-pedestrian collision at the junction of Brundage Drive and Airtex Boulevard. According to the constable’s office, the car hit a cyclist and took off.

When deputies discovered the man lying in the road, they started to give him first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but he passed away immediately from his wounds.

A mile or so from the scene of the event, Gamboa’s car was later found. Gamboa was positively identified, and a warrant for her arrest was issued by the constable’s office.

When Gamboa tried to board an out-of-state aircraft at the airport, he was apprehended shortly after 6 p.m.

The 184th District Court placed her bond at $40,000.
