This year, a number of analysts have forecast strong economic growth for both the state and the nation. Most, however, also admit that there is some degree of uncertainty in light of President-elect Donald Trump’s expansive ideas.

With Trump supporting tariffs of up to 60% on Chinese goods and 10–25% on goods imported from other nations like Mexico and Canada, raising tariffs and lowering taxes are at the forefront of these conversations.

This raises the question of how the economies of Houston and Texas would be impacted by proposed tariffs and other measures.
