The then-aspiring actor Drew Lynch suffered a head injury and nerve damage in an accident more than 13 years ago that made it difficult for him to talk. Unfazed, he began doing stand-up comedy.

Four years later, he was turning heads on America’s Got Talent and joking about his then-significant stutter.

Since then, speech therapy has significantly reduced that stutter. Additionally, his comedy has expanded, and tonight at 7:30 he will perform in the Cullen Performance Hall at the University of Houston.

Lynch describes how it all started with an injury sustained during a business softball game in an interview with Houston Matters producer Michael Hagerty.

He discusses how overcoming that setback inspired him to attempt comedy, the efforts he has taken to regain a significant portion of his speech function, the pressure he frequently feels to make audiences accept his speech problems, and how his stutter has improved him as a comedian.
