According to reports, former Senate President Steve Sweeney received the endorsement of the Atlantic County Democrats’ vice chair and the Southern New Jersey Central Labor Council for governor.
Sweeney promotes working-class New Jerseyans and would raise salaries and quality of life in the state, according to Sam Ferraino Jr., head of the Southern New Jersey Central Labor Council.
According to Ferraino, Steve Sweeney is a fervent supporter of the working class, and his campaign is based on tackling the problems that working families face on a daily basis. He has continuously supported laws intended to increase pay, job security, and access to reasonably priced healthcare because he recognizes the difficulties in juggling work, family, and financial security.
Sweeney was also supported by Hamilton Township committeewoman and Atlantic Democrats vice chair Thelma Witherspoon. Sweeney’s support by County Chairman Michael Suleiman was followed by Witherspoon’s.
According to a statement from Witherspoon, “it’s crucial that we come together behind a candidate who can win back the voters that we lost in November, as there are a lot of people who are very concerned about the future of our country.” One thing I consistently hear from both my neighbors in Hamilton Township and the volunteers I work with at my food distributions in Atlantic City is that Democrats want to return to their working-class heritage. I’m pleased to back my longtime buddy Steve Sweeney because of this.
