Kari Osmond leaves Watson Coleman staff for college post

Next month, a senior assistant to Representative Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-Ewing) will depart to join The College of New Jersey as an associate vice president for government and community relations.

Kari Osmond has been Watson Coleman’s head of staff since 2021 and has been with the company for the past ten years. Osmond will be succeeded by Alex Huang, who is now the deputy head of staff.

Watson Coleman stated, “I have known Kari for longer than I even care to remember, but we have been working together since my first election to represent the 12th congressional district ten years ago.” She will be sorely missed for her unwavering devotion to our office and the citizens of the four counties we cover. Kari is more than simply a friend; she has been an amazing professional, a dedicated organizer, and a resolute leader who has never shied away from a challenge. The amazing job Kari will perform with TCNJ is something I am excited to witness.

Osmond served as Assemblyman Reed Gusciora’s (D-Trenton) chief of staff prior to joining Watson Coleman’s team in 2015. She served as the deputy campaign manager for Watson Coleman in the 2014 House race and oversaw the reelection campaigns of Gusciora, State Sen. Shirley Turner (D-Lawrence), and Watson Coleman in the 15th legislative district in 2011 and 2013.

Huang referred to Osmond as a mentor and a close friend.

Huang worked on Rep. Brenda Lawrence’s (D-Michigan) staff for almost five years until joining Watson Coleman in 2021. He used to teach second grade.

As our deputy chief of staff, Alex has already been playing a significant role, and I expect the transfer to go smoothly as we continue to take on these crucial battles in the future. According to Watson Coleman, “we must remain vigilant in their defense because every citizen’s rights and basic freedoms are under attack every day.” I am confident that Alex is prepared for the obstacles that lie ahead since he is aware of what this fight looks like.

Osmond gave Watson Coleman credit for teaching her the value of standing up for what’s right in your community.
