Hector and Alonso will face Rodriguez and Wainstein in Assembly primary

Two supporters of North Bergen Mayor Nicholas Sacco have entered the campaign for the Democratic nomination for State Assembly in the 33rd district, a contest that will focus more on complaints about Union City Mayor/State Sen. Brian P. Stack than on policy concerns.

Frank Alonso, a Trump supporter and former Union City GOP Municipal Chairman who registered as a Democrat earlier this week, will join forces with Tony Hector, a landlord and former member of the North Bergen school board. He has previously faced Stack.

They will take on longtime Sacco opponent Assemblyman Gabriel Rodriguez (D-West New York) and his running mate, Larry Wainstein, a businessman from North Bergen. Julio Marenco (D-North Bergen), the incumbent, is not running for reelection for a second term.

In order to defend the taxpayers of North Bergen, Union City, West New York, Gutenberg, and Weehawken, Hector declared that his campaign for State Assembly would focus on exposing Brian Stack’s bossism, corruption, waste, and unending desire for political power.Instead of Boss Stack, we need independent Democrats who will stand up for the people.

Steve Fulop, the Democratic candidate for governor and the mayor of Jersey City, will use the same slogan as Hector and Alonso.

After losing three races to Sacco, Hector tried to take aim at Wainstein.

He declared, “We will never allow a man like him to prevail.”

When Stack ran for Hudson County Freeholder in 1999, he nearly met Alonso for the first time. In the Democratic primary, Stack ran an off-the-line campaign and won 85% of the vote, defeating incumbent Neftali Cruz. By roughly fifty votes, Alonso lost the Republican primary. He received around 7,000 more votes than Alonso. In a 2006 nonpartisan municipal election in Union City, Stack easily defeated Alonso.
