National LGBTQ group supports McGreevey for mayor

James E. McGreevey, a former governor, has received the endorsement of the LGBTQ+ Victory Fund, which provides financial and strategic assistance to openly gay candidates running for mayor of Jersey City.

The group’s president, former Houston Mayor Annise Parker, stated that Jim will bring a distinct and significant viewpoint to Jersey City and guarantee that all citizens are taken into account when formulating policy decisions. When elected, he will also become the first out LGBTQ+ person to hold the office of mayor of Jersey City, making history in the process.

McGreevey has made his support of progressive, community-focused policies, criminal justice reform, and social justice a pillar of his campaign to run for mayor of the second-largest city in the state again. He supported pro-choice measures both as a lawmaker and as governor, and in 2004 he signed legislation making domestic partnerships legal in New Jersey.

He presently serves as the director of the New Jersey Reentry Corporation, which assists those who have served time in prison in obtaining housing, employment training, rehabilitation services, and access to healthcare.

McGreevey is up against Hudson County Commissioner Bill O Dea, former school board president Mussab Ali, and city council members James Solomon and Joyce Watterman in the nonpartisan municipal election in November.
