With today’s revelation that Mahwah Councilman Ward Donigian has withdrawn from the campaign and endorsed incumbents Bob Auth (R-Old Tappan) and John Azzariti, Jr. (R-Saddle River), there is one fewer candidate in the Republican primary for two State Assembly seats in the 39th district.
Auth and Azzariti are now facing off against Woodcliff Lake Mayor and former lieutenant governor candidate Carlos Rendo and investment banker and former congressional candidate Frank Pallotta.
Everything is subordinated to party unity. This November, our state has a lot on the line. Republicans must support Republicans. The 39th district was won by President Trump by a mere two points. Donigian stated, “It is imperative that we protect these two seats during an off-year cycle when they are most at risk.” Mahwah and District 39 as a whole will advance most effectively if they band together in support of Auth and Azzariti.
Last Monday, Saddle River Councilman John Kurpis endorsed Auth and Azzariti and withdrawn his run for the Assembly.
Donigian, who has consistently supported Auth, declared his intention to run against Azzariti when he made his announcement in November.
