Baraka names Regena Thomas as campaign co-chair

Ras Baraka’s campaign for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination will be co-chaired by former Secretary of State Regena Thomas, placing a seasoned political strategist with a proven track record of mobilizing Black voters at the forefront of the Newark mayor’s statewide run.

Alongside Thomas, he appointed former New Jersey Citizens Action Executive Director Phyllis Salowe-Kaye and former Service Employees International Union (SEIU) New Jersey State Council Executive Director Lizette Delgado-Polanco as co-chairs.

Together, the three women are in a position to advance Baraka’s candidacy by drawing on their expertise as grassroots organizers in labor advocacy, voter mobilization, and progressive leadership.

According to Thomas, Ras Baraka is a transformational leader with an unmatched track record of accomplishments and is not simply another politician. The goal of this campaign is to end the political cycle that has failed New Jersey for far too long. Ras Baraka is the only candidate who is genuinely providing something new, something daring, something fair, and something that works for working people.
