Representative Josh Gottheimer
The ruling of today illustrates how the legal system is set up to function like a judge, rendering verdicts based on the text without fear or favor. In contrast, President Trump is currently deliberately destroying the rule of law through the Department of Justice. The ruling today may teach President Trump a few things about what the rule of law looks like.
As governor, I would defend and uphold our system and keep opposing President Trump’s attacks on the judiciary.
Steve Sweeney, former Senate President
The ruling of today serves as additional evidence that political prosecutions are inappropriate in both New Jersey and the United States. The judge has made it apparent that these innocent people, including Dana Redd and George Norcross, should never have been charged by dismissing this case. The political establishment can now focus on New Jersey’s urgent problems, like lowering the cost of living there.
Steve Fulop, Mayor of Jersey City
I am aware that the majority of New Jersey politicians will be afraid to speak up, but the truth is that there is frequently a distinction between what is good or wrong and how the legal system operates for technical legal reasons. It’s a sad reality. Bob Menendez’s first hung jury served as an example of this. This has been demonstrated by corruption instances nationwide. Change is needed in New Jersey.
Representative Mikie SherrillI have been keeping an eye on this case as a former prosecutor, and I will keep doing so if the AG files an appeal.Editor’s note: This morning, Attorney General Matt Platkin declared his plan to appeal.
