An additional $1.9 million in matching money under New Jersey’s Gubernatorial Public Financing Program was approved today by the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission.
On the Republican side, Jon Bramnick received $400,910, bringing his total to $2,661,301, and Jack Ciattarelli collected $1,070,612 in the most recent round, bringing his total to $5,188,666.
The sole Democrat to be granted more matching funds today was Josh Gottheimer, who will receive $451,848, bringing his total matching money haul to $3,720,420.
ELEC has authorized $15,472,391 in matching funds thus far.
The recipients of matching funds are Steve Sweeney ($3,242,742), Steve Fulop ($2,466,523), and Mikie Sherrill ($1,435,481). This week, Sherrill made a fresh request to withdraw further funds.
By the end of 2024, nine candidates for governor—six Democrats and three Republicans—had raised a total of $15.6 million.
Candidates can earn $2 for every $1 raised under the public financing method in New Jersey. The deductible not matched is $185,000, while the fundraising level is $580,000. Candidates will not be allowed to take part in the two debates that ELEC has approved if they raise less than $580,000 by March 24.
Primary candidates consent to a $8.7 million maximum on primary campaign spending and are eligible for up to $5.5 million in matching funds. To reach the $8.7 million mark, candidates for governor need to raise $3.2 million.
