Ex-Supreme Court Justice joins Archer & Grenier

Lee A. Solomon, a former justice of the Supreme Court of New Jersey, has joined Archer & Grenier as Of Counsel.

From 2014 until August, when he attained the statutory retirement age of 70, Solomon was an associate justice on the state’s highest court. Solomon worked as a legislator, cabinet member, and jurist in all three arms of state government before retiring.

Christopher Gibson, the firm’s president, stated, “We are proud to welcome Justice Solomon, a renowned jurist renowned for his fair-mindedness, wisdom, legal insight, and breadth of knowledge.” His unique knowledge as a trial lawyer and judge on a variety of situations would be beneficial to our clients.

Solomon’s track experience in public service will make him a huge benefit for our clients and the business, according to Deborah Hays, the Archer chair, and we are excited to collaborate with him.

Following Solomon’s exit, the seven-member Supreme Court was left without a member who had previously served in a high-ranking political party or run for public office.

Solomon, the justice with the most impressive political background, is a throwback to the original State Supreme Court following the ratification of the 1947 New Jersey Constitution. He began his career as a Haddon Heights councilman, defeated Rep. Rob Andrews in a 1992 special election convention for the 6th district, and then ran for Congress as a Republican.

Solomon lost his Assembly seat to the current majority leader, Democrat Louis Greenwald (D-Voorhees), by 1,618 votes in 1995.

Before being hired by then-U.S. Attorney Chris Christie as the Deputy U.S. Attorney in charge of the South Jersey office—a role that Solomon’s current colleague, Fabiana Pierre-Louis, later held—he worked as a Superior Court judge and a prosecutor in Camden County. Christie brought Solomon back to the bench in 2011 after appointing him as a commissioner of the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities during his tenure as governor.

Solomon remarked, “I’m thrilled to be joining Archer, which is an amazing firm.” I’m excited to work with the folks I got to know well during my career and return to the legal community from which I came.
