Shamsud-Din Jabbar allegedly killed at least 14 people and injured many more when he crashed a pickup truck into a crowd in New Orleans early on New Year’s Day. Federal officials visited his residence in north Houston on Friday.
Shortly after the violent rampage on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, Jabbar, 42, was shot dead by police in a brutal gunfight. Jabbar’s mobile home, which was situated in a small, mostly Muslim neighborhood just north of Houston, was raided by FBI officials later that day. Authorities declared that the local community was not in danger by Thursday morning.
Federal officers discovered “precursor chemicals” in the house, according to officials at the FBI New Orleans field office, which is the lead agency in the current investigation.
Agents said in an email that they were “conducting law enforcement activity” as part of the ongoing investigation when they resumed their search of the house on Friday. The search was over hours later.

Federal search warrant records were still sealed as of Friday afternoon, but a New York Post reporter visited the house on Thursday after police had left the area after their initial search. The reporter exhibits what appear to be two federal paperwork that describe what was taken from the house on a countertop in a social media video.
According to the video, among the items confiscated were acetone, sulfuric acid bottles, and a white material in bags marked potassium nitrate.
Many of Jabbar’s neighbors told Houston Public Media that they were taken aback by the unexpected police presence in the neighborhood following the tragic attack. Concerned about the possible effects of Jabbar’s behavior on the neighborhood, one neighbor asked to remain anonymous.
“Unfortunately, we don’t feel comfortable after what happened, how people will look at people who practice our religion,” the neighbor stated on Thursday.
