In remembrance of Chuck Hardwick, the former Assembly Speaker who passed away on February 19 at the age of 83, Governor Phil Murphy today ordered that the flags of the United States and New Jersey fly at half-staff on Friday.
Speaker Hardwick was an important influence throughout our state and a devoted public servant. We pay tribute to his legacy of kindness, generosity, and service, and we send our deepest sympathies to his family, Murphy added. His efforts to the people of New Jersey will always be appreciated.
Hardwick served as the minority leader from 1985 to 1986 and the speaker from 1986 to 1990 while representing Union County in the legislature from 1978 to 1992. In 1989, he ran for the Republican governorship.
At 10:30 AM on Friday, Hardwick’s visitation will take place at Gray’s Funeral Home in Cranford. A graveside service will then take place at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.
