GCTC, ST. Elizabeth announce partnership with City of Florence for new paramedic training program

St. Elizabeth Healthcare and the EMS Education Program at Gateway Community and Technical College have announced a new collaboration with the City of Florence Fire/EMS Department. Starting this summer, the partnership will start a satellite cohort of the Paramedic Program at Florence Fire/EMS.

In the Northern Kentucky, Southeastern Indiana, and Greater Cincinnati areas, St. Elizabeth Healthcare runs more than 172 primary care and specialty practices in addition to six buildings.

Over $100 million in uncompensated treatment and benefits are provided to the community annually by St. Elizabeth, a mission-based organization supported by the Diocese of Covington that is dedicated to enhancing the health of the communities it serves.

The program’s expansion highlights the value of regional collaborations among local fire/EMS departments, community colleges, and healthcare organizations. St. Elizabeth Healthcare, Gateway Community & Technical College, and Florence Fire/EMS are collaborating to meet the region’s and beyond’s expanding workforce and educational demands.

Boone County’s Florence Fire Protection District and the City of Florence, Kentucky, are served by the Florence Fire/EMS Department, which provide emergency medical, fire, and rescue services. Florence Fire/EMS serves a combined population of 55,781 people across an area of about 20 square miles.

To meet the urgent demand for more paramedics in the Greater Cincinnati Area, the Florence Fire/EMS Department reached out to Gateway and St. Elizabeth to extend their curriculum. The rapidly expanding department is committed to giving its residents the finest care possible and to hiring the best paramedics available.

By strengthening the Paramedic Education Department at Gateway, the new satellite program will serve local agencies’ hiring needs while providing more options for ambitious paramedics. The program emphasizes the value of preparing professionals who are ready to serve their communities with expertise and passion and underlines the dedication to excellence in EMS education.

Established in 2001, Gateway is the only public, two-year comprehensive community and technical college in Northern Kentucky, serving over 6,000 students. Last year, the Aspen Institute rated it one of the best community schools in the United States.
