Applications are being accepted for Green Umbrella’s Climate Action Fellowship program, which is intended for governments in the Greater Cincinnati area.
In order to create workable strategies and solutions for a changing climate, the fellowship pairs undergraduate and graduate students as well as those who wish to change occupations to focus on sustainability with Green Umbrella government representatives.
Support for research, increased capacity, and help with sustainable planning are provided to local governments. Fellows get support for professional development and networking, as well as priceless experience in the public sector.
The cities of Covington, Milford, and Oxford, Ohio, were the three local governments chosen for the first year of Green Umbrella’s Climate Fellowship program. Throughout their fellowship, these cities executed projects pertaining to energy cost savings, greenspace, and other topics, and they also started or expedited their sustainability planning procedures.
Out of the 188 jurisdictions in the Green Umbrella s10-county region, just three (the Cities of Cincinnati, Fairfield, and Oxford, OH) have sustainability action plans. With the fellowship’s assistance, Milford and Covington created and established environmental committees last year to begin their planning process. In order to help launch a community-driven, whole-of-government approach to sustainability planning and implementation that prioritizes community resilience, aids in budget stabilization, and facilitates access to increased funding, the Climate Action Fellowship program will collaborate closely with local governments.
The Greater Cincinnati Foundation provides funding for the 2025 Climate Action Fellows.
