This year (2024) appears to have a new spice recall almost every day…but not this one! The good news is that it’s the flip side.
A 2023 consumer complaint against McCormick & Company was based on allegations of “lead exposure” and “misleading packaging” that led to the dismissal of the case, according to Bloomberg Law, which reflected the recent criticism of the company’s spice quality.
Whatever may have been said in the past regarding heavy metals, the company has assured customers that their spices are safe and of high quality in a Facebook post they made on Thursday, September 12.
The company advised consumers (including those in California, where they have a store) to only buy spices from “mainstream brands like McCormick” so they know they are of the highest quality.
Commenters who have used McCormick for years and don’t intend to switch voiced their support for the classic spice distributor. “As a home cook, I have trusted only McCormick for my herbs and spices through the years,” they said, adding, “thank you for informing us, your cinnamon is safe.”
Following is the complete statement that the company sent in response to the allegations that their spices contain heavy metals, namely lead:
Spice blends and ground cinnamon have been linked to elevated lead levels, according to a report that McCormick & Company is aware of. Use well-known, risk-free brands like McCormick, according to the paper, to lessen your exposure.
You can keep buying our products with faith in us since we use our sourcing and tracking skills to provide tasty treats without sacrificing quality or safety.
