Houston man who threatened gun violence, bombings against Houston officials, hospitals sentenced

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, a Houston man was sentenced on Friday to 16 years in federal prison for sending racist and homophobic threats and messages to hospitals, lawyers, journalists, and Harris County authorities.

Jeremy James Joseph, 42, sent over 100 threatening emails to Kelsey Seybold Clinic employees alone over the course of two years, threatening to use guns and bombs against Harris County. He also threatened local council members, judges, and universities in a similar manner.

In 2022, Johnson wrote in an email to a Harris County probate court judge, “I have a gun, and I will use it if I have to against any and every one of you.”

After after 16 years in federal prison, Joseph will be released under supervision for three years. On December 13, he admitted to sending threatening emails during a plea hearing after being charged with making threats.

According to a statement from U.S. Attorney Alamdar Hamdani, his actions violated the safety and tranquility that are necessary for public employees to perform their jobs efficiently.

According to Hamdani, my office’s dedication to shielding public servants from such unheard-of dangers guarantees the integrity and ongoing operation of our legal system, keeps Mr. Joseph off the streets for the next sixteen years, and keeps terror and disorder from infiltrating its operations.

Joseph represented himself at sentence and chose not to speak for himself.

According to court filings, Joseph threatened to commit gun violence against a probate judge in 2022, nearly a year before his mother left him out of her will.

According to court filings, Joseph hired and fired several attorneys and filed a contest to the will. Joseph was finally prohibited from electronically submitting pleadings after flooding the court’s electronic filing system with online submissions.

Joseph tried to pose as the judge after being banned by setting up an encrypted email account and threatening to incite violence against the judge’s office.

Joseph wrote an email to CNN, the Dallas Morning News, KTRK, and other media outlets in 2023 with the subject, “I have a gun and bombs and I’m going to kill you.” He threatened to shoot journalists and detonate pipe bombs.

Joseph claimed in emails that same year that he placed pipe bombs around the outside of a Methodist hospital in Houston.

On Friday, U.S. District Judge Lee Rosenthal handed down his punishment. He will be held until he is transferred to a facility of the U.S. Bureau of Prisons, which will be decided later.
