McGreevey outlines public safety plan for Jersey City

A public safety platform was released by former Governor Jim McGreevey during his run for mayor of Jersey City.

McGreevey promised to create accessible mobile police stations, modernize the 911 call center, and update the Jersey City Police Department’s website in order to improve the openness, promptness, and trust of law enforcement. McGreevey is one of the Democrats vying for the governorship of Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop.

In a statement, McGreevey stated, “I am dedicated to enhancing the numbers, professionalism, and trust that our police department and neighbors share these 21 square miles we call home, as my grandfather, uncle, and cousin served with JCPD.” In order to carry out this plan, Jersey City needs a mayor and council team who will devote their entire lives to actively putting the above strategy into practice. This will make our families and kids safer while fostering a stronger relationship between our neighbors, friends, and JCPD personnel.

In order to increase pedestrian safety in the city, McGreevey described a number of initiatives, including cameras in school zones, a traffic enforcement bureau for more stringent traffic enforcement, and an acceptance of Vision Zero traffic programs to end road fatalities.

In order to prevent crime and enable quicker police responses, companies in Detroit placed cameras as part of the Project Green Light initiative, which the former governor also promised to implement.
