Newport Central Catholic unveils official name of new athletic complex, honoring major donors

Newport Central Catholic (NCC) has revealed the official name of its upcoming, cutting-edge athletic complex: Ciafardini Family Athletic Complex. This announcement is part of the ongoing capital projects within the Looking Up Campaign.

This groundbreaking facility, which is anticipated to be finished in the fall of 2025, will usher in a new era for coaches, student-athletes, and the Thoroughbred community as a whole. The stadium will have 1,500 seats, a press box, refreshments, a six-lane track, and a synthetic turf field. We are excited to commemorate this milestone since the Ciafardini Family Athletic Complex is a testament to the resilience and dedication of the NCC community.

“Investing in the next generation of Thoroughbreds and fostering community has always been our goal with the Looking Up Capital Campaign,” stated Principal Kenny Collopy. Through this campaign, we have been able to provide our students with the resources, infrastructure, and education they require to discover their God-given abilities and work toward being the best versions of themselves.

This fall, a unique ribbon-cutting event will mark the Ciafardini Family Athletic Complex’s grand opening. This summer, more information will be released, including how the community can participate in the festivities.

A significant donation was made to Newport Catholic in support of the athletic complex project by Anthony (Tony) Ciafardini, a 1966 graduate. The initiative has come to reality thanks to Ciafardini’s sponsorship, hundreds of other donations, and volunteer hours.

Finally having a permanent home for Thoroughbred athletics makes us incredibly happy and proud, Ciafardini remarked. Knowing that this sports complex will serve as a location for youth to develop their faith, strength, leadership, and sense of community makes it an honor to support its construction.
