On Monday, March 18 at 7 p.m., the Northern Kentucky University Vocal Jazz Ensemble will play vocal jazz at NKU’s Greaves Concert Hall in partnership with the New York Voices and Cincinnati’s School for Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA) ensembles, Meridian 8 and Baby Grands.
NKU is pleased to provide students with this special chance to hear New York Voices in our area, said Kelly MacKenzie-Thurley, director of NKU’s Vocal Jazz Ensemble. In addition to enhancing our students’ education, this opportunity to perform alongside Grammy-winning and highly regarded artists gives the local community a chance to enjoy top-notch jazz in their own neighborhood.
For almost thirty years, the New York Voices have been the benchmark in vocal jazz, distinguished by their flawless harmonies and inventive arrangements. The group’s partnership with the Vocal Jazz Ensembles of NKU and SCPA will feature both seasoned pros and the upcoming generation of outstanding jazz vocalists.
Sterling Finkbine, director of vocal music/Baby Grands at SCPA, remarked, “This is an incredible opportunity for our students to learn from and perform alongside one of the most respected groups in vocal jazz.”
The program for the one-night performance at NKU’s Greaves Concert Hall will combine vocal arrangements, modern selections, and traditional jazz standards. A night of music that transcends generations and showcases the strength of jazz is what audiences can anticipate.
