Seven teams advanced to the region’s eight-team bracket, joining Notre Dame Academy, on Tuesday after winning their district semifinal games by double-digit margins, completing the field for next week’s 9th Region girls basketball championship.

It was also a significant night for the Brossart boys team, who defeated Scott 48-37 in the 37th District game to secure a spot in the 10th Region tournament for the first time in three years.

Senior guard Parker Mulberry scored 20 points to help Brossart end a five-game losing run against Scott.

Mulberry’s 3-pointer late in the third quarter gave his club a 32–24 lead. In addition, he scored six baskets in the last two minutes to help the Mustangs, who finished 3-26 the previous season, win.

The 37th District final between Brossart (15–14) and Campbell County (21–9) will take place at Scott High School on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. For the past eleven seasons, Campbell County has been the district champion.

Cooper, Ryle, Dixie Heights, St. Henry, Holy Cross, Highlands, and Newport Central Catholic were the girls’ teams who emerged victorious from Thursday’s district semifinal matches.

Cooper defeated Boone County 68-16 on Tuesday in the 33rd District playoffs, securing a spot in the bracket after winning the previous three 9th Region girls tournaments. In a 36th District contest, NewCath defeated Bellevue, 63-51, in the closest district semifinal.

Coaches in the area chose Cooper sophomore guard Haley Noel as the 9th Region Player of the Year. Eaglin, Highlands’ Marissa Green, Holy Cross’ Aumani Nelson, and Dixie Heights’ Catherine Buddenberg were the other players chosen for the first team all-region.

Aniyah Carter (Holy Cross), Emma Holtzapfel (Notre Dame), Jaelyn Jones (Ryle), Maren Orme (Highlands), and Coralee Pelfrey (Dixie Heights) were the second team nominees. Addyson Brissey (Cooper), Jayden McClain (Ryle), Maya Lawrie (Notre Dame), Asia Carner (Dixie Heights), and Izalee Kerns (Conner) made up the third squad.
