As the second day of winter brings freezing temperatures to Southeast Texas, Texas officials have sent emergency personnel around the state.
Overnight Monday, temperatures in the Houston region once more dropped into the mid-30s. Until 9 a.m. on Tuesday, a cold weather advisory will be in force throughout the region; on Tuesday and into early Wednesday, another one may be issued.
Overnight, wind chill readings in certain parts of Southeast Texas ranged from 25 degrees to as low as 15 degrees. Residents are being advised by the National Weather Service to wear layers, keep pets inside, shield delicate plants, and exercise caution when using portable heaters and generators.
According to the National Weather Service, there is a greater likelihood of rain on Wednesday night and Thursday, which might result in wintry conditions over parts of Southeast Texas, such as Piney Woods and Brazos Valley.

According to Abbott, over 700 employees of the Texas Department of Transportation pre-treated roads, bridges, and overpasses throughout the state with more than 500,000 gallons of brine and 800 cubic yards of granular material over the weekend in anticipation of the winter weather.
Abbott stated that while severe winter weather affects communities throughout Texas, the State of Texas is working nonstop to make sure Texans have the tools and assistance they require.
To respond to winter weather emergencies throughout Texas this week, Texas Division of Emergency Management incident management teams, prominent Texas National Guard vehicles, and saw crews from the Texas A&M Forest Service are stationed.
It is imperative that everyone stay weather-aware, visit DriveTexas.org before going, and follow state and local officials’ instructions when temperatures start to fall below freezing and parts of Texas experience snow, ice, and freezing rain, Abbott said.
