Officials reported that a shooting at a makeshift nightclub in north Houston on Saturday killed two teenagers and injured four more.
The person suspected of discharging a pistol into a crowd at The Curfew Club, located at 10126 Jensen Drive, on Saturday night is still being sought by police.
Around 11:20 p.m. on Saturday, officers received a call regarding a shooting that was taking place at the club. Assistant Chief Luis Menendez-Sierra claimed at a press conference that evening that a huge group of people, primarily young people, were observed running out of the building amid what he described as a highly chaotic scenario.
The shooting claimed the lives of a 16-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl. Following the incident, a press release on Sunday stated that an 18-year-old girl was in severe condition and a 13-year-old girl was in critical condition.
On Sunday afternoon, two girls, ages 17 and 19, were in stable condition.
Mendez-Sierra stated that because the party took place at an unapproved club, it will be challenging to get security footage from the event.
According to him, the issues with these kinds of gatherings arise because they are not governed by any laws because they are not sanctioned. There are no rules, no guards, and no assurances that it is a legitimate business.
During a preliminary investigation, Houston Mayor John Whitmire, who was present at the news conference on Saturday night, stated that those who were thought to be security personnel at the event left the scene.
According to the Houston Police Department, some witnesses at the shooting site told police they observed a tall, thin Black man in full black clothes and a black mask fire a pistol into a throng.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or knows anything about the shooting is urged to call the homicide section of the police department at 713-308-3600 or call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-8477 to speak anonymously.
Mendez-Sierra assured the public that we will use every resource possible to discover what transpired here tonight and the perpetrators so that they could be held accountable. We need your assistance if you were present tonight.
