Atlanta, Georgia (WANF/Gray News) – In Georgia on Saturday morning, an 11-week-old puppy that had been badly burned by boiling water passed away from her wounds.
The puppy’s entire body was covered with burns; her rescuers gave her the name Elsie. The dog had either been put in boiling water or had boiling water splashed all over her, according to Jackie Spett, Director of Development and Marketing for Angels Among Us Pet Rescue, as reported by Atlanta News First.
The fact that the owners kept her for a week was “the really tough part,” according to Spett.
Elsie’s owners eventually brought her to the animal hospital, where the experts moved fast to save the furry child.
The Angels Among Us Pet Rescue detailed the event and included pictures of the puppy with wounds and a pink full-body cast in a Facebook post. At that point, Elsie’s narrative took off and hundreds of people began to follow her journey, feeling its impact on their hearts. More than 1.9k reactions, 808 comments, and 702 shares were received by the post.
Spett stated, “We want to give them a fighting chance.”
Elsie battled, and that’s exactly what she did.
“She began kissing me while I was holding her, and it felt like a regular puppy,” Spett remarked.
She appeared to be reacting favorably to the attempts on Friday, when she started consuming her liquid diet.
Sadly, by Saturday, she had developed sepsis and was unable to fight.
“I was really disappointed to hear the news when I woke up, but I didn’t have time to cry,” Spett remarked. “The next one, and the next one, and the next one” is guaranteed.
Elsie’s case is presently being investigated by Animal Control.
