Deputy-Involved Shooting in Kern County Caught on Video After Domestic Violence Incident

ONYX, California —

Footage from a gunshot involving Kern County deputies last month has been made public by the sheriff’s office.

On August 5th, deputies issued Austin Stringer, 25, a move-out and temporary domestic violence restraining order in the 8000 block of Melody Lane in Onyx.

During a stop for a stolen vehicle, police and deputies opened fire on a man.

Deputies were dispatched to the same spot two days later in response to a complaint that Stringer had violated the terms of his restraining order.

In addition to violating a domestic violence restraining order, Springer allegedly had many warrants, according to deputies.

There was a camper trailer on the site where Springer was found.

Kern County Deputy Involved in Shooting Following Violation of Domestic Violence Order The video was shot by KCSO.

The exchange of gunfire ensued as deputies attempted to speak with Springer.

The use of force in this event was found to be within policy after an investigation by the incident review board of the Kern County Sheriff’s Office on August 30th.
