Houston, Texas 16 December 2024Houston Public Media and KTSU jointly announce a new content partnership that will increase the local Urban Alternative station, The Vibe,’s reach. The Vibe will be broadcast on Houston Public Media’s KUHF 88.7 HD3 radio platform. According to station management, XpoNential Radio’s Mixtape service will be replaced right away by The Vibe.
The collaboration with Houston Public Media excites us much, said Ernest Walker, general manager of KTSU. “Both stations contribute to the Houston community’s public media and hold university licenses. Both organizations have the chance to reach a wider audience and carry out their respective goals to even more members of the Houston community.
Houston Public Media holds a license from the University of Houston, while KTSU is licensed by Texas Southern University. The historic third ward of Houston is home to both public media stations.
Josh Adams, Houston Public Media Station Manager, stated, “We will share News 88.7 updates on KTSU’s primary channel, The Choice, in addition to providing expanded broadcast distribution for The Vibe.” “The real goal of this partnership is to increase community service. In addition to giving KTSU’s hip-hop and R&B public radio station a 24-hour broadcast platform, we are educating a new audience with our in-depth reporting, local news, and weather.
As part of Corporation for Public Broadcasting’s Urban Alternative initiative, which aimed to unite youthful, culturally diverse audiences through music discovery and community participation, The Vibe made its premiere as a digital web stream. Listeners can now stream online on KTSU’s website or tune in to KUHF 88.7 HD3.
