California Lawmaker Lackey Introduces Bill to Suspend Gas Tax

Assemblyman Tom Lackey (R-Palmdale) has proposed a measure to temporarily suspend the gas tax for a year to bring gas prices down. If this bill is approved, it will serve as a temporary fix.

On average, drivers in California spend more than a dollar more per gallon than drivers in the rest of the country.

“The cost of living is too expensive,” Lackey stated in a news release, adding that they are putting everyday essentials on credit. “Commuters will feel immediate relief at the pump financially” due to this legislation.

For a year, ABX2-2 would put a hold on the gas tax. State General Fund funds would be used to replenish road funding.

In contrast to the national average of $3.30 per gallon, the current price in California is $4.65 per gallon, according to the Auto Club.

“The people of California require a vacation. “Suspending the gas tax for a short time is a reasonable way to help ease the financial burdens on our families, small businesses, and communities,” Lackey further stated.
