HOUSTON (AP) After spending the most of Sunday’s game following Miami’s top receiver Tyreek Hill, Houston CB Derek Stingley excelled.
Houston’s defense helped the Texans defeat the Miami Dolphins 20–12 on Sunday by forcing four turnovers, including two interceptions by Stingley in the fourth quarter.
According to Houston coach DeMeco Ryans, Stingley is currently playing football at an absolutely incredible level.
Later on Sunday, when the Broncos defeated the Colts 31–13, the Texans (9–5) won the AFC South for the second time in a row.
After only two receptions for 36 yards versus Hill, Stingley was questioned about his performance.
“Going up against someone who is the face of the NFL is a good opportunity,” he remarked. Thus, it’s just a terrific time to have fun whenever you get to go out on the field.
The Texans won for the second time in a row thanks to two touchdown receptions from Nico Collins.
In the second quarter, Collins caught a 6-yard touchdown pass, then in the third quarter, he made a second 6-yard scoring grab to put the score at 20-6. Dare Ogunbowale’s 35-yard run on a fake punt set up the score.
With almost four minutes remaining in the third quarter, Tua Tagovailoa completed a 7-yard touchdown throw to Jonnu Smith, but the kick was unsuccessful in cutting the margin to 20–12.
With roughly ten minutes remaining, the Dolphins were on the road once more when Stingley jumped in front of Hill to intercept at the Houston 20.
After that, the Texans had two drives, but both times they had to punt to give the Dolphins a final opportunity. In order to recover the victory, Stingley came through once more and intercepted a ball meant for Hill.
Ryans stated, “On defense, our guys came through and played a great job of finishing the game the way we needed to.”
C.J. Stroud, the quarterback for Houston, has been running a campaign to get Stingley on his side of the ball because he is so pleased with his skill set.
According to Stroud, he is unique. One day, we’ll try to get him an offensive play. He’s really skilled with the ball, in my opinion.
On a day when Joe Mixon only managed 23 yards rushing on 12 tries after being rattled up by a nasty hit early in the game, Stroud threw for 131 yards and two scores for Houston.
In a game without starting tackles Kendall Lamm and Terron Armstead, Tagovailoa threw three interceptions and lost a fumble for Miami (6-8). Tagovailoa had a 196-yard throw.
“My fault, plain and simple,” he stated. I must keep the ball safe. The team is depending on me to slow down our offensive in order to maybe tie the game, so I need to play better ball for our men. But I didn’t do it.
When Miami receiver Grant DuBose was carried off the field on a stretcher following a helmet-to-helmet collision in the third quarter, it was a terrifying sight. He is being transported to a nearby hospital for additional assessment, according to the team, and his status is stable.
According to coach Mike McDaniel, there has been some positive feedback regarding certain head and neck imaging. He will spend the night here, and by Monday, we will know more.
In the third quarter, DuBose attempted to make a catch, but rookie Calen Bullock struck him in the head before his head struck the ground with force. Bullock hit a helpless receiver during the play, earning him a flag for needless roughness.
While receiving treatment from emergency medical professionals, DuBose stayed on the field for over ten minutes. Players from both teams watched in alarm as his jersey was ripped off and a neck brace was placed on him.
After a while, DuBose was removed from the field and placed on a spine board with his arms and legs strapped down. He had some sort of tube in his mouth, and as he was removed from the area, there was no sign of movement.
The Dolphins knotted the score early in the second quarter with a 55-yard field goal after the Texans had a 44-yard field goal on their first possession.
Tim Settle recovered the fumble that resulted from Will Anderson Jr. sacking Tagovailoa from his blind side on the Miami 28. About seven minutes before halftime, Stroud scrambled away from pressure and found Collins in the end zone for his first touchdown, putting the Texans up.
With almost two minutes remaining in the second quarter, Miami made a 36-yard field goal to trim the margin to 10-6.
It rebounded off Stroud’s chest for a fumble that the Dolphins recovered because he wasn’t prepared for a snap on Houston’s subsequent possession.
However, four plays later, Bullock intercepted Tagovailoa, and they were left empty-handed. The Texans extended their advantage to 13–6 at the end of the half with a field goal after Bullock returned it 68 yards to the Miami 5.
Damage
Miami wide receiver Jaylen Waddle did not return after suffering a knee injury in the second quarter. After undergoing an emergency appendectomy on Saturday night, Houston tight end Cade Stover was unable to play. DT Foley Fatukasi suffered an ankle injury in the second quarter and was unable to return.

Next Sunday, the Dolphins will host San Francisco.
On Saturday, the Texans will travel to Kansas City.
