It was rainy and freezing throughout the weekend. Mist fell for hours at a time, and temperatures reached their highest points in the 40s and 50s. Today, Monday, December 9, 2024, is predicted to be sunny with a high in the low 80s. However, in certain areas of the Houston metro area, overnight Wednesday lows could be in the low 40s and possibly even the upper 30s.
We find the fluctuating temps irritating. Some of the flowers, plants, and crops that grow around town may find them puzzling and even dangerous. Carol Burton, Urban Harvest’s Director of Permaculture Education, agrees.
She talks about how Houston area gardens are affected by the drastically fluctuating temperatures during this time of year in the audio above, as well as what you can do this week to support the crops, trees, flowers, and plants that are growing in your own garden.
