Houston Methodist doctor temporarily suspended after testing positive for Cocaine

After cocaine was allegedly discovered in his system in October, a Methodist physician in Houston was placed on temporary leave.

Between August and October of 2024, Dr. Nathan Robert Starke is charged with performing several procedures while intoxicated. The Texas Medical Board says the suspension takes effect immediately. On December 20, Starke was placed on temporary suspension by a Texas Medical Board disciplinary tribunal.

According to the board’s assessment, Starke pretended to be disabled while taking part in many surgeries in August and September of 2024. On September 6, Houston Methodist formally suspended Starke. When he returned on October 15, he allegedly tested positive for cocaine.

Even if it is just temporary, the suspension will last until the board takes further action. Although the board did not specify how long it would last, it stated that it is because of concerns about Starke’s continued medical practice and the risks to his patients.
